Support Lake Street businesses during construction

In 2024, Lake Street will be under significant construction for various improvements and preparations for increased transit services.

These projects vary from ADA-accessibility curb improvements to restriping to full reconstruction. No matter the project, construction is always difficult for businesses, and it's not uncommon for businesses to see a significant drop in customers when there is construction. There aren't grants or public funds available to offset these losses, so it can be a tough time.

If you love local businesses like the several in Seven Points Mall or Karmel Mall, the best thing you can do for them right now is show up and support them during construction. We promise you - the small additional effort it will take to navigate the shifting lanes and parking will be worth it!

Curious about more details on construction, or wondering what the new designs will look like? We've posted more detailed information for stakeholders here.

Vehicle and pedestrian access to Lake Street will never have a complete closure due to construction, though there will be partial closures and detours. View the City of Minneapolis Road Closures Map to view lane closures and detours.
